Welcome to Tallahassee, Florida
Tallahassee is the Capital of the state of Florida. It is located in Leon County in the pan handle of north Florida. Tallahassee was established in 1825. It has a rich historical background. The Florida State Legislature starts the first of March and ends in the last of May in its regular session. There are other special sessions during the year.
There are three main institutions of higher learning in Tallahassee: Florida State University (FSU), Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and the Tallahassee Community College (TCC). There are other smaller specialty Colleges. FSU, FAMU and TCC have about 65,000 students. FSU and FAMU have professional Colleges: Medicine, Pharmacy, Architecture, Law and Engineering. Both Colleges are known nationally and internationally for their excellent programs and astute faculty members.
Recreational Activities in Tallahassee
We have year round outdoor activities in Tallahassee! Salt and fresh water fishing, canoeing, sailing, sail boarding, jet skiing, hiking, camping, on road and off road biking, running clubs, gardening, flower clubs, birding and more. The City of Tallahassee Parks and Recreation Department is the Gold Medal winner for 2004 for the United States for cities of our size. Our two most popular sports are soccer and softball for all ages, males, females and co-ed. We are also very lucky to live near the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge, Wakulla Springs, Torreya Park and the Apalachicola National Forest. Please check the web sites below all kinds of fun activities.

We have the State of Florida Museum, The Mary Brogram Museum of Art & Science, The Tallahassee Museum of History & Natural Science. Also, we have the San Luis Mission, St. Marks Mission, Planetarium and more.
Cultural Activities in Tallahassee
With the Universities, we have a lot of cultural activities to offer: Seven Days of Opening Nights, FSU College of Music, Theater, Film and Dance. Off Broadway Shows visit Tallahassee, as well. Plus, we have national touring Concerts, national Concerts, the Tallahassee Ballet, Tallahassee Symphony, the Tallahassee Little Theater, Young Actor’s Theater and more! See the links below

Events
"Springtime Tallahassee" is a wonderful spring event when we are totally in bloom; like living in basket of flowers. There is the Fourth of July Celebration at Tom Brown Park and the "Festival of Lights" at holiday time. We have the famed Olympic Red Hills International Horse Trials in March. There is the Rattlesnake Roundup, too!
